ACS

Access Control Service. The CygNet service that grants or denies permission for a user to perform a task.

Active Directory

A Microsoft Active Directory group or user. See Using Active Directory with the ACS.

Application

A CygNet Software component, such as a service, a software application, or a record, data group, or UIS command.

Application Administrator

A person authorized to add, edit or delete users for a specific Application. An Application Administrator consists of a unique combination of Application and Security ID, representing a Group Admin.

Application Override

PNT or FAC security overriding target service security.

Authentication

Verify the user based on an ID and password. CygNet does not have its own logon. It relies on the operating system (Microsoft Windows) for user authentication.

Authorization Level

The level required to perform a task governed by an Event.

Component-Level Security

Security applied at a level lower than a service, such as record, data group, or UIS command.

CygNet Group

A security group comprised of Microsoft Windows logon IDs, Active Directory groups, or other CygNet Groups.

Group Admin

A group Admin consists of a unique combination of a Group and Security ID, representing a Group Admin.

Note: A Group Admin can consist of another Group.

Group Member

A Group member consists of a unique combination of a Group and Security ID, representing a single member of a group.

Event

One or more tasks of an Application, such as adding a record, editing a history value, editing a point configuration record.

Permission

Assignment of a user ID to an Event, including the authorization level for that user ID. A permission consists of a unique combination of an Application, Event, and Security ID with an attribute of Access Level.

Security ID

An attribute (property) of one of the four configurable entities in the ACS (Permissions, Group Members, Group Admins, Application Admins) containing both of the following:

  • an identifier representing a User, or Group, or Active Directory entry, and
  • a Type indicating the type of the identifier.

Note: A Security ID can be a Group.

Security Supervisor

A person authorized to modify the contents of the ACS.

Service-level Security

Security applied at the service level.

Windows Logon ID

The ID that a person uses to logon to their Microsoft Windows network.
